Reflection - Textiles

wow what a day! spent all day leaning over a table printing my design onto sheets of plain white cotton. this is to be my lining to go inside the hood, around the cuffs and across the hem. after printing, i died the fabrics to experiment with colour to see which would work best in my design. i decided that the green was the best so i died all my fabric that colour. but yeh i really enjoyed printing. i used the silk screen method using a screen that John (one of the technicians) had already prepped for me :)
i think my fabric came out realy well for a first timer and i am very pleased and proud of it.    :p

Reflection - Visual Communication

well today was a very good day. got a lot of work done. we started of by looking at fonts by cutting up news paper articles and creating a collage. my collage was a bit too plain so i decided to scan it into a computer and layer it up on Photoshop. i then did a bit more on photoshop by adding effects to make the pages more interesting.
we then experimented with a media called dry transfer where you have sheets with letters on and you just rub them onto a page. that too was very helpful and i want to use it in my final.

Reflection - Textiles

week 2 of textiles and i have a slight idea of what i want to make by the end of the project.
after researching about lay-lines and energy points around the world, i found that there is one specific place in particular which has the most amount of lines crossing and that is exactly at the position of the Holy Ka'bah in the Holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. However, it wasnt this that gave me inspiration, it was actually the clothing that the arabs were wearing that inspired me to design a modern Jubbah (arab dress)

Reflection - Visual Communication

today was our first lesson of Vis Com. Clair is so so so thoughtful she made a cd full of all the details and information that we might need. the main aim of the lesson was to get some ideas running. i wanted to link the theme into architecture so my first idea was to look at the contrast between night and day and how buildings look so different.
we then had a group discussion which was very helpful and i got another idea which was to look at the contrast between urban and rural and to see which was the best place to live.

Reflection - Photography

The first pic is of random lights and was done by just moving the camera around with a long shutter speed. This worked very well. The second is done in the same way but the camera was kept still while a car went past. This piece didn't work as well as i wanted it to because it is too dark. enjoy :)
